Petrified Forrest, AZ

This stop was added after we passed a billboard saying that the park was 5 miles ahead! The park contains the painted desert, petrified wood and collections of petroglyphs. The painted desert mountains are layered with white, yellow, orange, red, purple, green and blue. We were both surprised at how interesting it was to see the pertoglyphs carved into the mountains. We have heard about them a lot but seeing these ancient carvings in person takes you back to what it must have been like when they were first created. It was a short stop but we got some cool pictures and can add another national park to our list.
