Grand Canyon, AZ

Day one-
This post is very hard to write because I find myself at a loss when trying to find the right words to describe the Grand Canyon. How does one talk about such an immensely beautiful place in a few words? Not sure, but here I go anyways. Jeremy had already been to the Grand Canyon, but this was a first for me. Needless to say I was super excited and woke up 30 minutes early*, like a little kid going to Disney World.

We drove into the park and went to the first outlook place. Amazing. From there we drove the 50+ mile out and back road along the ridge of the canyon. There are multiple look out sites and each one gives you a completely different view of the canyon. On this drive we saw an Elk munching on some branches right next to the road. As most of you know I am a huge animal lover so I wanted to stay and watch this great creature much longer than Jeremy. After a good 20 pictures we kept driving. We had a lunch picnic under a small shady tree on the edge of the canyon. One of my favorite parts is how quiet the canyon is when you are away from the other people.

After a few hours in the park we headed back into the town of Tusayan (little town on the edge of the canyon) to get a few more things we needed for our 6 mile hike in the morning. We went back into the park a bit before sunset and explored the Canyon Village. Here we took pictures, watched birds soaring on the updrafts coming off the cliffs and bought our first Christmas tree ornament. After seeing the beautiful orange and red sunset we went back to our hotel and hit the sack so that we would be prepared for our 3:50 alarm

*A note for the future – remember that AZ has its own time zone. We went 1.5 days without realizing that we were an hour earlier than the rest of the state.

Look closely---I'm out there on the ledge!
