After living a nomadic lifestyle for a few days going city to city and sleeping outside, both Laura and I were excited to get to Durango for a 5-day stay at the Kassings. They had rented a house in Durango for the month of June, and I was excited to meet the family I had heard so much about, spend some quality time with Laura and her best friend, Lauren, and be in a town that was a little bit bigger than the cities we saw in Utah.
On Friday, we went on ~5-mile hike up a mountain near 32nd Street in Durango. The hike was somewhat strenuous, but we got to see great views of downtown Durango and Fort Collins. That afternoon, we went on an hour-plus mountain bike ride along the river trail (which was littered with thousands of huge gnats that attached to anything and everything near them).
The rest of the day we hung around the house, made dinner and a fire with accompanying drinks of Jameson, and then broke into a competitive partner Scrabble® game. Believe it or not, Scrabble® ended in a tie, which for me was almost worse than losing.
